First off, yes the background sucks.
Second off, I am SO using that technique again XDD I like the painting effect. My perspective isn't perfect, but it's a cute picture. He was at a really awkward angle, so it looks a little funny.

That is really cute. The one on the right is awesome and I love the color/style you used. Gives a great feel to the picture.
